The Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) will organise its maiden “political awareness conference” on the Manjakuppam Grounds here on June 24, according to its founder T. Velmurugan, former MLA.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Velmugurgan who floated the new party after his expulsion from the Pattali Makkal Katchi, said that the conference would serve as a rallying point for the Tamils to assert their rights and to retrieve their lost prestige.

Unity on common causes

It was a matter of concern that riparian rights of Tamil Nadu were denied by neighbouring States such as Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The TVK was of the view that if political parties in Tamil Nadu put up of a show of unity on common causes, it could safeguard its interests. The TVK also sought retrieval of Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka and protection to Tamil Nadu fishermen on the high seas and Tamils living on the island.
