T. Velmurugan, former PMK MLA, being carried by his supporters in Cuddalore on Wednesday.

Questioning the authority of the executive committee of the Pattali Makkal Katchi to expel him, T.Velmuguran, former joint general secretary of the party, has called upon the party high command to convene a general body meeting in a week to decide on the issue through voting. Mr. Velmuguran was addressing a large gathering of his supporters at the Town Hall here on Wednesday. Just as he was elected to the party post through two-thirds majority of the general body, a similar procedure should be adopted for his expulsion too.

Till then, he would be acting under the PMK banner and if there were any legal hurdles he would contemplate floating a new political party or a movement. Prior to that he would undertake a State-wide tour to seek justice, and, to meet and ascertain the views of those functionaries who were thrown out of the party over a period of time, the academia, intellectuals and party cadres, on his proposal to start a new outfit. When he announced the proposal there was a thunderous applause from the audience. He underscored the point that it was not on the agenda either to switch political party or to take along with him the supporters to other parties. Mr. Velmuguran appealed to Dr Ramadoss to convene a public meeting in Cuddalore to play the so-called controversial audio cassette and let them decide whether he deserved such a treatment.
