T.Velmurugan's Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) now a registered political party

The Election Commission has registered the Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), floated by former MLA T.Velmurugan, as a registered political party under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act 1951. A communication issued by the Election Commission in this regard was released by Mr Velmurugan to the presspersons. It states that registration will not entitle the party to the reservation of any exclusive symbol for it. However, the candidates duly set up by the party at an election will be entitled to the benefit of preference in allotment of free symbol over independent candidates. The party is required to submit to the Election Commission a report of contribution received in excess of Rs 20,000 in a financial year in the prescribed format, quoting the Permanent Account Number. The Election Commission has also informed that it is not concerned with the flags of political parties.
