Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) May Support AIADMK in 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) is likely to support AIADMK in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, party sources said on Thursday. TVK founder Velmurugan is expected to officially announce his decision on the alliance at the party’s conference scheduled to take place in Salem on February 23

 

Speaking to Express, a TVK functionary said, “Though DMK leaders like M R K Panneer Selvam have been trying to woo our party for an alliance, our leader may extend support to the AIADMK in the Parliamentary election. Our leader cannot join hands with the DMK for two reasons.”

Explaining the reasons, the functionary said, “The Congress party has been trying for an alliance with the DMK. If this happens, our party cannot support the DMK. Secondly, our leader has been continuously criticising the DMK for the last few years for supporting the Congress government at the Centre which had helped the Sri Lankan government during Eelam war in which thousands of Tamils were killed. How can we join the DMK alliance then?”

According to a TVK cadre here, Velmurugan would not support any alliance of which Congress and PMK were a part. “Now Congress is moving towards the DMK and the PMK is in alliance with the BJP. So, our leader may support the AIADMK in the elections,” he said.

“Our leader is the correct person to counter PMK founder Ramadoss’ election campaign. Velmurugan can also explain to the people Ramadoss’ betrayal of the Vanniyar community. He will also be able to dent PMK votebank in some constituencies in northern districts,” another party leader said.

The upcoming general elections would be the first for TVK since the party was launched in 2012.
